Bangkok, Thailand. 8th United Nation’s Day of Vesak was celebrated in MCU, Wangnoi, Ayudhaya province Thailand on May 11 – 14, 2011 to remark the 2600 years old three significant events of Lord Buddha’s life. The conference was organized by
MCU supported by Royal Thai Government which also celebrated 84th birth anniversary of Thai’s beloved king Bhumipol.
The main theme of Conference was ‘Buddhist Virtues in Socio-Economic Development’. The conference’s key note speaker Professor Lewis Lancaster of University of California, Berkley, and U.S.A addressed Leaders reinforced by Dhamma Principles in Population Development. The theme was divided into four academic sessions; Buddhist Leadership and Socio-Economic Development, Building a Harmonious Society, Environmental Preservation and Restoration and Wisdom for Awakening Society.
3 students were sent as volunteer and 23 students joined this conference to represent Mahapanya Vidayalai as being part of affiliated institute of MCU.
Perak,Ipoh, Malaysia. Vesak celebration was celebrated throughout the world so did in Buddhist community in Malaysia. One of the former students of MP.V invited 5 monks to Wat Siribunya Maggarama to give dhamma talk. Venerable Deepan Chhetri, acting director of MP.V explained the significance of Vesak Day, elaborating three most auspicious events of life of the Buddha. Venerable Sonam delivered the importance of Five Precepts and how to practice them in daily lives.
The venerable abbot Leang Pema Silo, secretary and other devotees of Siribunya monastery thoroughly enjoyed the talks on June 16’s evening session by venerable Sonam and 17th’s morning session by venerable Deepan.
Four days tour to Kula Lumpur, Camroon Highlander, Penang, and Ipoh was organized for invited monks.
